SHAUN MALONEY could be in line for a move to Major League Soccer after his move to Premier League Leicester City collapsed yesterday.

The Scotland international was given permission to speak with Nigel Pearson's side after they agreed a fee of around £1.2million with Wigan Athletic. However Maloney failed to agree personal terms with the Foxes and the interest from the USA may have been a factor.

Wigan manager Malkay Mackay yesterday revealed that Chicago Fire have registered interest in the former Celtic and Aston Villa winger, who could be tempted to follow a host of big names who will ply their trade Stateside for the 2015 season. Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Villa and Kaka are among those signed on for next season. Steven Caldwell and Adam Moffat are the two Scottish players currently registered with MLS clubs.

"We accepted a bid for Shaun Maloney, but the personal terms fell through. He's our player until the end of the season," said Mackay.

"Interest was from Leicester, and there's still interest from Chicago Fire. Shaun's our player unless a new offer comes in."
