Shiels' side eloquently make his point, and their points, on the park

However, the success of Kilmarnock under Kenny Shiels deserves a headline of its own, and one that does not talk to off-field controversy.

The Northern Irishman seemingly has a facility for annoying some people but he has a genuine belief in how football should be played and an enviable talent in imparting that faith to his players. He is a bright, engaging personality who has undoubted skill as a coach. Kilmarnock were bright, brave and adventurous at Ibrox on Saturday. Shiels is blessed with good players, particularly his son, Dean. The Northern Ireland internationalist is technically sound and has the capacity to open up games for his team-mates.
