Shoot-out ends Africa Cup of Nations dream for Williamson

Bobby Williamson was unable to lead Uganda into next year's Africa Cup of Nations finals after his side lost in a penalty shoot-out to reigning champions Zambia.

Uganda have not featured in the tournament since 1978. Saturday's match went straight to penalties after the 90 minutes ended in a draw, and Zambia won the shoot-out 9-8.

It was a tough way for Williamson's side to go out but the former Hibernian and Kilmarnock manager received sympathy from the Zambia head coach. "I have no idea what I'd tell Bobby Williamson because this is a heartbreaking defeat for them," said Herve Renard.
