To mark Saturday's William Hill Scottish Cup final between Falkirk and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, we look back at 18 finals from the past - six involving non-Old Firm teams, six won by Rangers, and six won by Celtic.
Aberdeen 3-0 Hearts, 1986
Under Alex Ferguson, Aberdeen had made a spectacular, lasting challenge to the Old Firm. This was their fourth Scottish Cup win since 1982, and John Hewitt (2) and Billy Stark gave them victory. The club also won the league three times and the European Cup Winners' Cup under Fergie. But an era was coming to an end: he joined Manchester United at the end of 1986 and embarked on a remarkable run of success there.
Motherwell 4-3 Dundee United, 1991
The so-called 'family final' - Tommy McLean was in charge of Motherwell and his brother Jim was in charge of United - was an enthralling affair. 'Well substitute Stevie Kirk headed the dramatic winner in extra time to give the Steelmen only their second Scottish Cup. United had lost the Scottish Cup finals of 1974, 1981, 1985, 1987 and 1988.Would their cup heartbreak never end? It would - in 1994, when they beat Rangers.
Kilmarnock 1-0 Falkirk, 1997
On the 40th anniversary of these two teams meeting in the 1957 final (which Falkirk won after a replay), Paul Wright scored the only goal of the game, at Ibrox, to give Killie victory - but Falkirk were controversially denied an equaliser when Neil Oliver's 85th-minute volley was ruled out.
Hearts 1-1 Gretna (Hearts win 4-2 on penalties), 2006 Gretna's journey to the final was the stuff of dreams, but it ended in tears, Hearts keeping their nerve from the penalty spot to win the trophy for the seventh time. Gretna had given their all in regulation time and extra time, but a couple of penalty misses would prove crucial.
Dundee United 3-0 Ross County, 2010
United had won the cup for the first time in 1994; this time around, at the end of their centenary season, they faced Ross County. The Dingwall side had seen off Hibs and Celtic en route to Hampden, but United - under Peter Houston, who is now in charge of this year's finalists, Falkirk - won, thanks to goals from David Goodwillie and Craig Conway (2).
Hearts 5-1 Hibs, 2012
A result that still causes some Hibs fans palpitations. The Easter Road side had hoped that this final would be the one to end their long cup hoodoo - they had last won it in 1902 - but Hearts were too strong for them, with goals from Darren Barr, Rudi Skacel, Danny Grainger (penalty), Ryan McGowan and Skacel, again, putting Hearts fans in dreamland.
