Solomons hails part played by bit-part players in Edinburgh win

The match, which Edinburgh came through 25-13 to go back to the top of pool four, will not live long in the memory for many.

The first half in particular was littered with mistakes from both sides and Edinburgh were too often trying to force the issue.

In the second half they showed a bit more composure and scored three tries, but they could not secure a bonus point.

On the match Solomons said: ??We made a lot of errors in the first half and made a rod for our own back. I said to the boys at half-time that London Welsh had done nothing in the first half, we had gifted them an intercept try and they were leading.

??All we had to do was be calm, get down into their half, cut down the error rate and the points would come - and they did.

??I would like to complement the guys that came off the bench because I thought they made a massive difference in the second half. They really did well, in the front-row there was one key scrum where John Andress and Neil Cochrane made a huge difference, it was great to have Anton Bresler back out there for the first time in six weeks while it is great to see Stu McInally playing once again for Edinburgh.??

Those replacements in the pack as well as half back subs Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and Greig Tonks certainly did help Edinburgh improve in the second 40 minutes and they will all come in to contention to start in the next meeting of the teams down south this coming Sunday.

The first 60 seconds of the first half were good for Edinburgh, stand-off Tom Heathcote slotted a penalty, but little did the crowd know that that was as good as it would get in the first 40 minutes.

Edinburgh seemed to make more errors than passes during that period and they could not take advantage of the 10 minutes when London Welsh had a man in the sin-bin.

After Heathcote??s early penalty, London Welsh got themselves on the board in the ninth minute thanks to a penalty from former Heriot??s and Edinburgh stand-off Gordon Ross.

Seven minutes later the visitors, without a win in all competitions this term, took the lead when winger Rhys Crane showed good anticipation to intercept a pass in the midfield and run in under the posts for a try.

Ross converted and Edinburgh knew they had more of a game on their hands than they had envisaged at kick-off.

In the 21st minute Edinburgh got themselves within seven points of their visitors with a second penalty by Heathcote, but that was to be the end of the scoring in a drab half.

Edinburgh tried manfully to up their game, but too often the ball was spilt at key times and there seemed to be a lack of direction.

London Welsh for their part defended well, but the fact that Edinburgh could not score any points while Crane was spending 10 minutes in the sin-bin and Heathcote missed a kickable penalty meant it was going to be a long afternoon.

In the second half it was clear that Solomons had had a few stern words with his players at the break because they came out looking much more determined.

A try from prop Willem Nel brought Edinburgh back to two points down just after the interval and then in the 66th minute and the 70th minute further tries came from Cochrane and prop Rory Sutherland as the home side came through 25-13.

Back-row Roddy Grant was named man of the match for Edinburgh who know they will have to improve in the coming weeks if they are to have a good December.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh have announced that due to personal concerns over continued injuries, Michael Tait has decided to leave the club with immediate effect.

The Melrose-born former Scotland under-20 centre signed from Newcastle Falcons on a one-year deal until the summer of 2015 however his appearances have been restricted by injury to only two.
