LIVINGSTON boosted their chances of beating the drop by adding a 5-1 away thumping of Dumbarton to last week's draw with Cowdenbeath, which followed a run of eight defeats in nine matches.

Jordan White and Danny Mullen both scored twice and Keaghan Jacobs netted a peach as Livingston gained ground on the four clubs immediately above them.

White headed the opener from Jason Talbot's corner after five minutes but Dumbarton came back strongly. Scott Linton and Garry Fleming both had chances, with the latter denied by Darren Jamieson.

The visitors stepped it up in the second half and Mullen missed a decent early opening when he turned a shot wide after Danny Rogers had saved his initial effort.

But Mullen wasn't to be denied and - just after Van Zanten had missed a great chance at the other end - he turned his man and swept a neat finish past Rogers.

The same player put the game out of Dumbarton's reach when he tucked home the rebound after a Keaghan Jacobs shot

came back off the post. Jacobs then thumped home Livingston's fourth and White added the fifth.

Donald McCallum netted a late consolation for the hosts with a composed finish.

Alloa Athletic, who are second bottom, had to be content with a 0-0 draw against Raith Rovers at the Indodrill Stadium.

There was an early scare for the home side when Ross Callachan tested Craig McDowall, the goalkeeper flopping on the goal-line to save.

Liam Buchanan had the best chance of the first half but shot inches wide after collecting a measured pass from Graeme Holmes.

Alloa's Michael Doyle forced a good save from David McGurn in the second half but it was Raith who almost took all three points late on. A delicate flick fromChristian Nade, who had been on the field for only two minutes, was blocked on the line by Stephen Simmons.
