FORFAR Athletic moved within a point of leaders Stranraer after a 1-0 win over 10-man Stirling Albion at Forthbank.

In a game that only went ahead after two pitch inspections, Gavin Malin scored the only goal late in the first half after Gavin Swankie created the opening.

The home side had Chris Smith sent off for a professional foul at the start of the second half. They had chances to take something for the game but found Rab Douglas in form in the Forfar goal.

Stranraer looked to have taken all three points away to Airdrieonians when substitute Jon McShane put them ahead from a corner with only three minutes left. However, the game finished 1-1 after Jim Lister headed an equaliser two minutes later.

In the evening kick-off at Cappielow, Morton beat Dunfermline Athletic 2-0 to keep in touch at the top.

Michael Moffat and Andy Geggan both missed first-half chances for the visitors while Ryan Scully pulled off a good save from a Thomas O'Ware header.

Morton made the breakthrough midway through the second half when Ross Caldwell netted at the end of a flowing move involving Joe McKee and Peter MacDonald.

Caldwell then set up MacDonald for the clinching goal with 10 minutes left. Mark Russell almost added a third at the end but his shot was inches too high.

Stenhousemuir and Ayr United drew 1-1 at Ochilview. On-loan Paul McMullan gave the hosts the lead after 20 minutes but Alan Forrest levelled after 33 minutes. Ayr had chances late on with substitute Scott McLaughlin denied by Greg Fleming and Craig Beattie going close.
