The Scottish Professional Football League will be involved in discussions over the scheduling of the football calendar for the 2021/22 season following speculation that the World Cup in Qatar will not be held in summer.

Neil Doncaster, the SPFL chief executive, said: "As a member of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues, we are involved in a consultation on the subject.

"There is a meeting of the EPFL in Frankfurt on January 23, where we will be represented and after which we will be providing any update on the situation to member clubs."
