NEWCASTLE midfielder Conor Newton has agreed a new six-month loan deal with St Mirren after a succesful spell in Paisley last season.

Newton wrote his name into the club's history books last season with a goal in the 3-2 triumph over Hearts at Hampden, helping to secure the Scottish Communities League Cup.

"I had offers from a few clubs in the Championship, but I felt that the right move for me at this stage was to come back to St Mirren and continue where I left off."

He hopes to persuade his team-mate Adam Campbell to join him at St Mirren Park. "If the deal is done I'll be the first one to welcome him," he added.
