Whether it is balancing the books, managing supporter expectation or finding a fit between youth and experience in his squad, the 48-year-old has completed each task with aplomb thus far. On Tuesday evening, he will attempt to find an equilibrium between defence and attack, with the consequences of a miscalculation likely to be severe.
