Stirling Albion fans have been reported to the SFA after Peterhead striker David Cox was abused about his mental health problems in the recent League 1 match between the sides at Forthbank.

Cox recently went public after his issues, which have led to him contemplating suicide, and the 25 year old was subjected to a number of unpleasant shouts mocking his mental state after he was substituted with half an hour of the game to go. Peterhead players on the bench and officials in the Stand were angered by the shouts that they heard, however they have left it to the authorities to deal with after the Match officials headed by referee Des Roache confirmed that they would be including details of the abuse in their match report. A Peterhead spokesperson said: "We believe that this should be treated in the same manner is if the shouts had been about a player's colour or sexual orientation. We had an incident of racism at our ground last season that the Match official advised the SFA and as a club we dealt with it." Forthbank chairman Stuart Brown has promised that his club will look into the matter and he confirmed via the club's website: "Following on from a number of formal complaints from members of the public with regard to the behaviour of a small number of those in attendance at last Saturday's match versus Peterhead, I can confirm that I have instigated a full investigation." "On behalf of Stirling Albion I extend my sincere apologies to anyone in attendance who was offended and/or upset as a consequence of anything that occurred during the course of the afternoon. My personal assurance is that anyone found to be responsible will be dealt with appropriately." "It would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this point, aside from providing assurance that all relevant parties will be engaged in the investigation and that the outcome will centre around ensuring that Forthbank Stadium provides a family-friendly, safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
