Stranraer are hopeful that discussions with Dumfries and Galloway Council, the emergency services and the Scottish Professional Football League over the capacity at Stair Park will allow their crowd limit to be raised from 3000 to 6000 for the visit of Rangers.

The club play the Ibrox side on August 17 and the club's safety officer, Shaun Niven, hopes they will be allowed to temporarily increase their capacity in order to meet the demand for tickets that the arrival of Rangers inevitably brings.

"Events reached a bit of a crescendo on Monday and since then things have moved on at a fair pace," she said. "The number of people who can stand and watch the game is decided by a number of bodies including the league and the emergency services. The figure is not in place at the moment but it is getting there."

The possibility of moving the game to either Ayr's Somerset Park or Queen of the South's Palmerston has been put on hold. Niven said: "Our preference has always been to hold the game at our home. Hopefully we can get the allowed attendance up to between five and six thousand which is a figure that we feel is right."
