Stuart McCall saw his Rangers side get back on track with a four-goal win over Raith Rovers and then warned they will have to make considerable improvements to achieve the long-term goal of returning to the SPFL Premiership.

The Ibrox side bounced back from a 3-0 midweek defeat at Queen of the South with a victory carved out through first half goals from Nicky Clark and Haris Vuckic and a late double from Nicky Law.

However, despite keeping pace with Hibernian, who recorded a 2-0 win over Hearts at Easter Road, manager McCall reported himself unhappy with elements of Rangers' display and has warned that he expects much better in Wednesday night's visit to Livingston, who have won their last two league matches and are battling furiously to haul themselves off bottom spot in the Championship table.

"It was okay," said McCall. "There were some nice goals, although we were sloppy at times. For a little period of 20 minutes in the second half, we went through the motions and we can't afford to do that. We certainly know Wednesday night [at Livingston] will be a different challenge.

"I was at the Alloa v Dumbarton game on Saturday and you could sense Alloa had everything to play for and Dumbarton nothing bar pride, obviously. This was similar with us having everything to play for. Even the Hearts v Hibs game, as much as it was a derby and Hearts would not have wanted to lose, it's psychological and Hibs had everything to play for.

"I thought the game might pan out as it did, but Wednesday will be different with Livingston flying and we'll need to be better than we were against Raith. I would have liked us to be a bit more decisive. There is no singing and dancing. I still think we'll need to be better and we can be better."

Vuckic scored his seventh goal in 12 outings against Raith and McCall made mention of his growing importance in these decisive weeks of the campaign.

"We tried to swap it around by playing a diamond and getting Haris into more space, but he still tends to head for the right-hand side, which is his favourite," he said. "Every time he cuts in onto his left, you expect the net to bulge.

He is important to us and is a goal threat."

Grant Murray, the Raith Rovers manager, believes McCall has turned Rangers into a stronger unit since taking over. However, he insists that getting out of the Championship is going to require a massive effort no matter which side earns the right to face the team that finishes 11th in the Premiership.

"Regardless of who becomes the winning team from the play-offs, they still have to go and play a Premier League team," he said. "At this moment, we don't know who it will be, but there is a good chance that team will have a winning mentality.

"People are talking about Ross County or Motherwell. It won't be an easy task going to these places."
