Both of these teams recorded excellent results over the course of the weekend although England were very poor for the first hour against Slovenia and will be looking to come out of this battle with a victory

This won't be your typical friendly in terms of experimenting. There is a lot to gain for Scotland if they win in terms of increased momentum and confidence going into the next round of qualifiers. On the flip side, there is a plenty to lose for Roy Hodgson. The manager and his squad will come in for heavy criticism if they falter at Celtic Park. But, regardless of who wins, it promises to be a terrific spectacle.

It's a very difficult game to predict. When weighing up individual quality England are the favourites but Gordon Strachan has instilled a togetherness in the Scotland players for the first time since Walter Smith was in charge of the national team. Tactically, it will be very important for Scotland to limit the player at the bottom of England's diamond (usually Jack Wilshere) by pressing him aggressively and forcing him backwards. The northern and southern points in the diamond are the most crucial positions but I imagine England might make some personnel changes due to club agreements. Even if that happens to be the case, the playing style won't alter. In my experience, full-backs are the most important players against a diamond and I wouldn't be surprised if England tried to show us down the right side of the pitch rather than allow Andrew Robertson to attack.

Scotland are likely to continue with the 4-2-3-1 formation that served them so well against the Republic of Ireland on Friday night but Strachan may well opt to match England's diamond.

Key Players

Scotland Andrew Robertson, Scott Brown, Steven Naismith, Darren Fletcher

England Raheem Sterling (if Liverpool allow him to play), Jack Wilshere, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck

My prediction Scotland 1 England 2
