David Templeton, the Hearts winger, has been given a two-match ban over violent conduct in last weekend's match with Hibernian.

The Scottish Football Association confirmed Templeton would serve the suspension with immediate effect.

The 23-year-old was issued with a notice of complaint by the SFA compliance officer Vincent Lunny for kicking out at the Hibernian defender James McPake during Sunday's Edinburgh derby at Easter Road, which ended 1-1.

Despite the incident having taking place a matter of yards from match referee Willie Collum, no action was taken by the officials at the time, but Hearts have accepted Templeton went too far.

"He may well have been lucky to stay on the pitch," manager John McGlynn said. "[But] maybe if the referee had blown earlier, because there was a free kick initially, then maybe it does not get to that situation."

McPake claimed that, despite his foul prompting the furious reaction, Templeton's kick was unacceptable. The Hibs captain said: "It was a boot from David. It might not have been the nicest of tackles from me and it was a foul, but you can't just boot someone."

Templeton will miss Hearts' home match with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday and the following week's trip to Aberdeen.

Queen's Park captain Ricky Little has also been issued with a notice of complaint and faces a charge of "not acting in the best interests of association football and in particular by posting on Facebook improper comments of a threatening nature".

Reports claim that on or around August 5, Little used the site to threaten to injure Rangers players when the sides meet this season.

Ross Caven, the Queen's Park president, said he and club officials had discussed the issue with the player, adding: "He assured us the exchange [was] no more than casual 'banter' among long-standing friends. As far as he was aware the only people reading his postings would understand the flippant context. Ricky is now fully aware that digital media can be unable to reflect the context of an exchange and therefore be misinterpreted.

"Ricky and Queen's Park FC apologise for any anxiety and the club will at an appropriate time contact Rangers to pass on a similar message."

Little's hearing will take place on Thursday August 30.
