The Fugue's career finished

John Gosden's brilliant mare The Fugue has run her last race due to injury.

The five-year-old, owned by Lord Lloyd Webber, broke the track record in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot only last month. She was sent off a hot favourite to follow up in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last Saturday but never got involved.

It was thought she had returned home unscathed but a career-ending injury to her near foreleg has been found.
