It may well be the season of goodwill to all but that bonhomie doesn't extend to the organisers of sporting events.

A cursory glance – for that is all it requires – at my sporting calendar of choice informs me the only competition of note, aside from the ubiquitous football fixtures, is the World Professional Darts Championship at Frimley Green, which presumably is the next village along from Trumpton and the sister town of Camberwick Green.

Since the Tenner Bet knows as much about darts as a chicken-factory owner knows about football management, I'm steering well clear and, instead, will be dipping my toe into more familiar waters with another look at the goalrush market.

Or, as it's known within the four walls of Tenner Bet Towers, the "whaur's-my-housekeeping-bet".
