Peterhead took full advantage of Rangers' slip at Forthbank as they hauled themselves up to joint-top by beating Berwick Rangers 1-0.
Bryan Deasley set up fellow substitute Stephen Maguire in the 77th minute and he made no mistake to give Peterhead all three points.
In the only other third division game played, Montrose finished comfortable 3-1 winners over East Stirlingshire.
