Kevin Thomson, the Hibernian midfielder, will appear personally today when the Scottish Football Association's fast-track tribunal hears his appeal against the red card he was given in Saturday's match with Dundee United.

Thomson was dismissed alongside United's Gavin Gunning following an ugly melee. Hibs, though, have appealed in the hope their player is spared a two-match ban. If they are unsuccessful then Thomson will be out until September 14.

The Easter Road club will be keen for some good news this week since Paddy McCourt - who had trained with Hibs - is likely to be offered a deal by Barnsley.
