Farid El Alagui insists a simple glance at the Championship fixture list was enough to convince him to reject a move to the Premiership in favour of joining Hibernian.

St Johnstone and Dundee were keen on signing the French-Moroccan striker, but were left disappointed as he agreed a two-year deal at Easter Road following his release by Brentford.

El Alagui, 28, says it was an easy decision to make. "I think this season it is more appealing. Everyone wants to know who out of Rangers, Hearts and Hibs will come back."

Hibernian have taken another former Brentford man on trial. Goalkeeper Antoine Gounet played just one senior game during his time in London and departed Griffin Park last summer.
