Today at the Euros

match of the day

The big guns are out for day two as Group B, aka 'the group of death', unleashes its first round of fixtures. While the opening day of the tournament seemed to lack any particular thrills, on paper at least, today, Netherlands take on Denmark and Portugal challenge Germany. Joachim Loew's side sailed through qualifying with a 100% record that included an average of more than three goals per game with just seven conceded. Portugal's defence conceded more in qualifying than any other side that made the cut and with Paulo Bento's team generally lacking in many of the positions that do not feature Cristiano Ronaldo, this could prove a cracking match and an emphatic victory for the Germans.

what to look out for

Goals, and lots of them. At the end of the qualifying process, Netherlands were Europe's top goalscorers after netting an impressive 37 times to give them an average of 3.7 goals per game. Germany finished second in the most prolific list, three goals behind Holland, while Portugal's 21 strikes is nothing to be snubbed at either.

bet of the day

A scorecast predicting Mesut Oezil to score first and Germany to win will give you odds of around 11/1 with most bookmakers. Oezil notched five goals in the qualifying process and will be looking to continue the form from this run of games.

star men

Group B features a luxurious calibre of player throughout each squad, and yes, that does include Denmark. Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has attracted the gaze of Manchester United's scouts with his performances in the past season and he will be an essential factor in Morten Olsen's side if they are to recreate a similar underdog victory to that which helped the Danes claim the Henri Delaunay trophy in 1992.

numbers game

138 The collective amount of club goals scored by Robin Van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Gomez in the past season. Gomez and Van Persie picked up the top goalscorer prizes for their respective efforts while Ronaldo's 46 league goals proved to be four short of the top spot which was inevitably taken by that small Argentine kid with the messy hair.
