FORMER Celtic striker Tony Watt has admitted he is eager to get his career moving

again after joining Charlton following a frustrating spell in Belgium with Standard

Liege.

Watt, 20, only joined Liege from Celtic on a five-year contract for £1.2m last

summer after spending last season on-loan at Lierse.

But he struggled to make a real impact at Liege, starting just four games, and he

can't wait to play for Charlton boss Bob Peeters.

He said: "It is a good way to start the year with a new challenge for me and I am

just glad to get out of Belgium and back to the UK.

"Everyone has welcomed me at Charlton and there has been a massive difference.

"I didn't settle in as quick in Liege and it was difficult for me.

"Sometimes you need to start again and go back and go down a level.

"But luckily for me I have not gone down a level. I have stayed at the same level

and maybe even gone a bit higher as the standard of the Championship is massive and

Charlton are a huge club."

Watt has revealed that he jumped at the chance to join Charlton on a three-and-a-

half year deal after Peeters made clear how determined he was to sign him.

He added: "To be fair he has been brilliant. When I asked Standard if I could go

on loan at the end of November, within an hour he had called me.

"My agent spoke to the president and within an hour he called me and said 'look

Tony I got offered players from Standard and there was only one player I asked for.'

"He was positive and I couldn't believe it on the phone he was brilliant.

"He said 'you need to work and if you work hard and show me enough and are good

enough you will play.'

"I said 'look it is good for me I am happy with the challenge.' I was impressed with

him straightaway.

"He gave me a challenge and hopefully I can rise to the challenge that he has given me."
