Tommy Wright, the St Johnstone manager, has dismissed the suggestion that he quoted a price for Stevie May when Rotherham United made an enquiry for the striker earlier this month.

Steve Evans, manager of the Sky Bet League One side, intimated that he was told to stump up £800,000 for May.

That version of events was later recounted to Wright, who claimed that no fee was ever mentioned. Evans quipped that: "I must have been speaking to a Dutchman," as a result but the St Johnstone manager maintains that his club have never revealed their valuation of the Scotland Under-21 forward.

"That is two clubs who have asked about Stevie and painted me as the bad guy," said Wright, who was also contacted by Peterborough United. "At least it will look good on my cv that I seem to be bi-lingual."
