DAVID WEIR, the Rangers assistant manager, insists there will be no rush to sign players for the sake of it this summer as boss Mark Warburton attempts to strengthen his squad.

Rangers have completed deals for Danny Wilson, Rob Kiernan and Wes Foderingham so far ahead of the new season and are continuing to monitor Reece Wabara, Andy Halliday and John Eustace.

Warburton will see his side in action for the first time in a behind closed doors match against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday as preparations continue ahead of Petrofac Training Cup tie with Hibernian on July 25.

Rangers lost an entire team of players at the end of last season and assistant manager Weir is determined to make the right acquisitions to add quality to the squad in the coming weeks.

"I'm not sure about a flurry of activity but we are working on getting players in," he said. "When we are at the stage when we've done it, we will talk about it then. That's the way to conduct business. I don't think you should be talking about other clubs' players or signing targets before then.

"Mark and I know the type of players we like. We know how we want to play and the type of players who will fit that style of play. It is different playing for Rangers, though, and that's why Danny Wilson was such a good signing for us. He's done it before here and we know he can do it again. Sometimes it can be difficult playing for Rangers, so to get someone like that is a big help."
