Celtic showed continued signs of improvement as they registered their first pre-season victory with a 2-1 win over League One side Brentford.

The Scottish champions, who lost four friendly games during a summer tour of Germany and Austria, travelled to London on the back of Wednesday night's 3-0 win over Cliftonville in their Champions League second- qualifying round first leg.

But despite fielding a side that included only skipper Efe Ambrose from the win at the Northern Irish side's Solitude home, Neil Lennon's youthful team was too strong for Uwe Rosler's men at Griffin Park.

Cheered on by a 6,000-strong away support, Celtic handed starts to Tom Rogic, Dylan McGeouch and Tony Watt after all three made substitute appearances in their European clash.

Brentford made an early breakthrough when Martin Fillo beat Ambrose and newly-signed defender Steven Mouyokolo before clipping a cross to the back post which Adam Forshaw nodded past Lukasz Zaluska after 10 minutes.

But Portuguese frontman Amido Balde struck his first goal for Celtic 13 minutes later when he held off a couple of defenders before bundling his finish past Bonham. Balde and Watt hit the bar before the break, before 20-year-old Callum McGregor's fine finish in the 57th minute sealed the win.

Derek Adams believes Ross County's Kevin Luckassen is showing every sign he can make a big impact in the Scottish Premier League. The 19-year-old ex-AZ Alkmaar striker troubled a strong Manchester United reserve side all afternoon in Dingwall after netting an early opener.

The County manager, deeply- satisfied with his team's performance in the 2-2 draw, said: "Luckasse took his goal very well again. He has fitted in well.

The game was staged to mark the completion of the 6,600-seat Global Energy Stadium. Just before his retirement, Sir Alex Ferguson had telephoned George Adams, Ross County's director of football, to honour his pledge to send a team north for the match.
