Catriona Matthew will make her eighth Solheim Cup appearance for Europe next month after earning a wild card from team captain Carin Koch.

The North Berwick veteran, who made her debut in the biennial event in 1998 and has been an ever present in the side since 2003, celebrated her 46th birthday by accepting one of Koch’s four captain’s picks.

The other three wild cards went to France’s Karine Icher, Germany’s Caroline Masson and Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall, who became the first player in Solheim Cup history to win all five of her matches in the 2013 contest.

"So happy that I made the Solheim team," Matthew wrote on Twitter. "Can't wait."

Team Europe will be aiming for an unprecedented third successive cup triumph when they face the USA at St Leon Rot in Germany from September 18-20.

The 12-strong team also features Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera, Charley Hull, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal and Carlota Ciganda.
