One of the oldest golf clubs on Glasgow's southside has appointed a female as captain for the time in its 122-year history.

Jane Alexander was unanimously voted into office by some 100 members of Cathcart Castle at the club's annual general meeting last Friday.

Alexander, a member at Cathcart Castle for 32 years and a six-time club champion, takes over the reins previously held by David Harkness.

“It's particularly satisfying to take on this job in what is a historic year for golf in Scotland, with the amalgamation of our ladies' and men's amateur organisations into the single representative body of Scottish Golf Limited,” said Alexander. “The game is truly changing, and it will be a privilege to have a small footnote in the annals of golf's modernisation.”
