Robert MacIntyre, the Oban left-hander, got his domestic amateur campaign off to a winning start with a narrow victory in the Scottish Champion of Champions at Leven Golfing Society last night.

The Glencruitten member, who won last year’s Scottish Amateur Championship at Muirfield, added to his burgeoning trophy cabinet with a one stroke victory over Dumfries & County’s Liam Johnston, a quarter-finalist in the recent Spanish Amateur Championship.

MacIntyre, the former Scottish boys and youths’ champion, finished with a 21-under aggregate of 263 in what had developed into two-horse race for the prize.

Barry Hume, the 2001 Scottish champion who opened his challenge with a sparkling 10-under 61 during Saturday’s first round, was a distant third on 271.
