Brookline nerves still give Lawrie the shakes

This time last year, the prospect of a Scot barging his way into the European Ryder Cup team seemed as unlikely as two women getting membership at Augusta National.

It's amazing what can happen in a few months.

Here at a sodden Gleneagles, this week's £1.4m Johnnie Walker Championship over the PGA Centenary course will bring the curtain down on qualification for Jose Maria Olazabal's team which will travel to the USA next month to defend the trophy at Medinah in Chicago. Paul Lawrie doesn't have to worry himself about any of that, though.
