There's no rest for the winners.

Fraser Mann claimed one of the biggest titles of his long career in the Senior PGA Professional Championship at Foxhills in Surrey yesterday but there was little time to savour the celebratory bubbly.

"It's now straight back on the road as I'm coaching at 9am on Saturday at Carnoustie," said the 55-year-old after easing to a six-shot victory.

Mann closed with a level-par 73 for a two-under aggregate of 216 and finished well clear of the English duo of Brian Sharrock and Roger Tuddenham as he became the second successive Scottish winner after Kenny Hutton a year ago.

Mann's last significant conquest came 13 years ago when the Carnoustie stalwart won both the Northern Open and the Scottish PGA Championship during a glory-laden summer on the Tartan Tour. "It's just great," said Mann, who was the club pro at Musselburgh for almost two decades. "I've won a few things in Scotland but this is my first national title."

His success at Foxhills earned him a cheque for £5250 as well as a place in next month's ISPS Handa PGA Senior Championship on the European Senior Tour.

Title holder Hutton made a decent defence of his crown by sharing fourth place on 223 while Paisley's Stephen McAllister, the former European Tour winner, shared eighth with a 225.

On the European Challenge Tour, Glasgow's Andrew McArthur is lurking in third place heading into the weekend's action at the Made in Denmark Challenge in Copenhagen.

The former Scottish Amateur champion, who claimed his second victory on the circuit in Slovakia last season, posted a steady one-under 70 for a two-under 140 and sits just two shots behind the halfway leader, Jack Senior.

At the GolfKings Scottish Area Team Championship, Ewen Ferguson, the former British Boys' champion, helped Dumbartonshire take the strokeplay qualifying honours at Blairgowrie.

The Bearsden teenager had rounds of 71 and 66 for a seven-under tally as Dumbartonshire finished as the No 1 seeds for the matchplay phase ahead of defending champions Renfrewshire.

Perth & Kinross, Ayrshire, Fife, Glasgow, the North East and Lanarkshire were also among the top-eight teams that will contest the knock-out stages.
