Gailes to play host to Open qualifying update

The Royal & Ancient last night chose Glasgow Gailes near Irvine as the Scottish venue in a major overhaul of final qualifying for the Open Championship.

From 2014, the 36-hole local final qualifying stage, which is currently held at four courses within close proximity of the Open venue, will take place at one Scottish course and three across England as organisers strive to make the process more geographically and financially convenient for both players and officials.
