Far removed from the bawling, swearing and gesticulating of the dug-out, the freedom of the fairways offers a tranquil haven for reflection and rehabilitation.
From pacing forlornly up and down the technical area with a face like a collapsed lung, the colour returns to the cheeks and a smile breaks out again as a 4-3-4 start to the local medal puts all the anguish of formations and tactics to the back of the mind.
