Laird out to end long home wait

It has been 13 years since a Scot last triumphed in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and Martin Laird is eager to bring that miserable run to an end.

There is still a lot of golf to be played between now and the domestic showpiece at Castle Stuart near Inverness in July, but the US-based 29-year-old is already gearing himself up for the challenge.

Laird, who finished joint second in last weekend's Players' Championship at Sawgrass, will aim to become the first Scottish winner since Colin Montgomerie at Loch Lomond in 1999."That would be one of the highlights of my career, to win the Scottish Open in front of one of the best golf crowds in the world," said the US-based world No.31, who will be back in the UK next week for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. "I think every Scotsman in the field would feel the same. The Scottish Open is one of the most important events on my schedule and it's about time we produced another home winner."
