On a largely pleasant yet testing day, where there was enough of a chilly breeze to cause plenty of mischief, Maguire carved out a seven-under-par 68 to set the early pace alongside Heswall's Rachael Goodall, who eagled her first hole in an equally impressive round.

Maguire helps set the pace
The Maguire family's mantelpiece is already straining under the weight of golfing silverware and there could be more to add this weekend as 17-year-old Leona, one half of the all-conquering Irish sisters act, eased to the front during round one of the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Troon Portland.
