Pretswell triumphs

Pamela Pretswell's decision to miss this week's Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship in favour of another outing alongside the professionals was fully justified last night when she won the Ljungbyhed Park PGA Ladies Open, a Ladies European Tour Access Series event, in Sweden.

The 22-year-old Bothwell Castle member reeled off rounds of 73, 72 and 67 for a one-under total of 212 and a two-shot triumph as she became the first amateur to win on the developmental circuit since it was launched in 2010.

Pretswell, who will represent GB&I in the Curtis Cup at Nairn next month, is using the opportunities on the Access Series to develop her game ahead of her expected transition into the professional ranks next year.The former British Women's Strokeplay champion certainly is making the most of it. Her victory lifted her up to second on the tour's order of merit, with the leading three at the end of the year earning direct promotion to the main circuit and bypassing the qualifying school. Prestwell will continue her escapades in Ukraine next week at the Golfstream Ladies Open in Kiev.n It took Fife's golfers 35 years to win the Moneygate Scottish Area Team Championship, but the defending champions will be confident of making it back-to-back victories in this season's contest at Blairgowrie.The Fifers will face stiff competition from last year's runners-up and the 2010 winners, North East, while 13-times champions, Lothians, will be eager to return to their dominant ways having not won the national title since 2007.
