Alexander Levy triumphed in the Portugal Masters yesterday after the event was reduced to 36 holes as a consequence of continued heavy rainfall at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Club.

Officials had chosen to reduce the tournament to 54 holes on Thursday evening, with many players only able to start their second rounds at the weekend.

Levy - alongside playing partner Nicolas Colsaerts - had played just a single hole of his third and final round yesterday when the heavens opened once more, drenching the course, with organisers deciding that the result would be decided on 36-hole scores. That meant that the Frenchman secured his second European Tour victory following completed rounds of 63 and 61.

Colsaerts finished three shots behind him on on 15 under, while Chile's Felipe Aguilar, Dane Morten Orum Madsen and Romain Wattel of France were each three further shots further back. Scott Jamieson was the best placed of the Scots, finishing in a share of 13th.

"It feels very special," said Levy, whose inaugural Tour victory came in the Volvo China Open in April. "If at the start of the year you say to me: 'you are going to win two tournaments', I [would] say 'never' to you. It's a very nice feeling to me. I work hard on this game and I think I played a good game this week and the week in China.

"It's special. You are only on 36 holes but after Friday night I knew I would only play 54. But it's a special feeling at this time."
