Rookie Watson let's slip overnight lead but happy to be making progress

Scotland's Sally Watson finished joint third behind Sweden's Camilla Lennarth and England's Melissa Reid at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open in Golf Resort Tale.

Lennarth fired a flawless final round of 66 to win her first Ladies European Tour victory with four-round total of 11-under-par, four strokes clear of Reid, with Watson and England's Hannah Ralph four shots further back.

The 26-year-old Lennarth, from Stockholm, began the final round tied for the lead with Watson but quickly gained the advantage with a birdie on the first hole, which Watson bogeyed. The Scot then double bogeyed the second hole to slip four strokes behind.

"I got off to a very good start so I thought maybe this could be the day," said Lennarth. "From then on I hit some very poor shots but I managed to recover very well."

Watson's 74 included five birdies, five bogey and one double bogey, but she was pleased to be making progress in her rookie year. "Obviously it wasn't quite the finish I would have liked but I didn't hit it as well as the first round and the short game wasn't quite as good as I would have liked. I'm continuing to move up the leader board so hopefully I'll be working my way into the winner's circle sooner or later."
