After the course was flooded on Saturday, the tournament was reduced from 72 to 36 holes. Young shot 68-65 for an 11-under par tally of 133 to win by three shots from Alexander Culverwell (Dunbar) and Paul Shields (Kirkhill). Steven Rennie (Drumpellier) had a hole-in-one at the 11th in his second round.
n Stephen McAllister fired a 65 to finish fourth on 202 at the Senior Tour's Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open in Switzerland.
The Paisley professional's five under par effort matched the lowest round of the day of second-placed Mark James as well as Sam Torrance, and saw the Scot finish fourth on eight under, four strokes behind American Tim Thelen.
McAllister reached the turn in level par, but a back nine of 30 saw him charge up the leaderboard and pocket £9849 for his efforts at the Golf Club Bad Ragaz. Torrance's 65 saw him finish the week on five under.
Sir Bob Charles and Gary Player continued to amaze the world of golf with their unbelievable levels of performance. Charles' opening 66 saw the New Zealander better his age by a Senior Tour record of 10 shots, while Player's scores of 72-70-71 were a testament to the nine-time major champion's fitness and competitive drive. Charles added a 73 and a 72 to his remarkable first round to finish the week at one over par – two ahead of Player – and in a tie for 42nd place.
n Motherwell's Ross Kellett finished joint 17th in the Flory Van Donck Trophy Alps Tour event at Golf Sept Fontaines, near Brussels. Kellett had rounds of 70, 71, 74, 73 for a four-over-par aggregate of 288, eight shots behind the winner, Joannes Hugues of Belgium, who won by a shot from Ireland's Brendan McCarroll and Soon Kim (Italy).
n South Korea's Na Yeon Choi was six shots clear after the third round of the US Women's Open after firing a seven-under-par 65 at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin. The 24-year-old picked up eight birdies in a stunning round despite the windy conditions with a bogey at the par-3 13th the only blot on her copybook as she moved to eight under.
Choi went into the final round six strokes ahead of compatriot Amy Yang, who carded a 69.
n Kilmacolm's former Scottish champion Megan Briggs finished joint 11th in the English Women's Open Mid-amateur Championship at Wetherby GC on Saturday.The tournament was switched from its scheduled strokeplay/matchplay format to 36 holes of strokeplay after the course was flooded more than once.
