It has been a season of indvidual success for Bradley Neil but the Blairgowrie teenager is gearing up for team mode as Scotland's amateurs open their assault in the Eisenhower Trophy in Japan this week.

Eight years ago in Australia, the trio of Wallace Booth, Callum Macaulay and Gavin Dear claimed an historic World Team title with a rampaging nine-stroke triumph over a US side that featured Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel.

The Scots will be up against it in the Far East over the next four days but with a side which also includes Grant Forrest and the new Scottish champion Chris Robb, Neil is quietly confident.

"Hopefully we can play well this week and contend at the Eisenhower," said the reigning Amateur champion who will be part of Team Europe for the forthcoming Junior Ryder Cup at his home course of Blairgowrie. "We know we can put in a good performance and all three of us, individually, are good players. It's a question of performing as a team this week.

"We've had six Scots in the top 100 [of the world amateur rankings] this year, which is certainly different to last year. We've shown as a group that we've made a step up and made big improvements at a British and a European level. We've driven each other on this season."

Neil's season of success was rewarded yesterday when he was officially unveiled as the winner of both the Scottish Golf Union's order of merit and the Scottish Golfer of the Year award, which is based on world ranking position.

"It's a great achievement," added Neil, who is sixth on the world order. "I would have been delighted to win one of them, but winning both tops off my season well, even though we have more to play for ahead of the Junior Ryder Cup."
