TIGER WOODS ended a four-month injury lay-off by slumping to last place, 11 shots off the lead, around the course in Orlando where he was a resident for more than a decade, writes Bernie McGuire in Windermere, Florida.

Woods' eagerly-awaited comeback was, for the most part, agony for the Hero World Challenge host who sent his opening tee shot into a neighbour??s back yard en route to back-to-back bogeys on the exclusive Isleworth course.

The 14-time major winner, who has not played since he posted a pair of 74s to miss the cut in the US PGA Championship in August, then duffed chip shots at eight and 11 in a score of 77 to be 11 shots behind the new Australian Open winner Jordan Spieth, who led the $3.5m event at six under par late in his round.

??I shot in the 80s before but it??s weird because I didn??t think I hit it that bad out there today at all," said Woods. ??I missed it a few times over the front nine on the wrong side but overall nothing just went my way. Take 13: I hit probably my best two shots all day and walked off with a 6.

??Physically I feel good: there was no pain at all, and that??s something I have not been able to say in a long time.??

Jason Day, the Australian who played alongside Woods and shot 71, said: ??I have never ever seen Tiger Woods miss so many chip shots; it??s very surprising.??
