Weather proves too big a challenge for greenkeepers

One thousand square metres of polythene and a vast quantity of the Macdonald's Hotel's stock of towels was not sufficient to save the final day's play at the Scottish Hydro Challenge in Aviemore.

Organisers were resourceful in attempting, first, to protect the course, then to dry it, but after a five-hour delay all that could be salvaged was a play-off between the overnight leaders, Sam Walker and Simon Wakefield, won at the third attempt by the former.
