Spence, 26, will be the last British female athlete to compete at this year's Games, but it will be worth the wait.
Four years ago, the Scot achieved the qualification criteria for Beijing, but with each nation permitted just two entrants per gender, she was overlooked for eventual silver medallist Heather Fell and Katy Livingston.
