Athletics supremo van Commenee is pleased with supporting cast

As Mo Farah lapped up the adulation from the adoring Glasgow public on Saturday night, against a backdrop of ticker tape and the vigorous waving of Union flags, you almost forgot about the question of Scottish Independence.

"Maybe he's good for a nation," suggested Dutchman Charles van Commenee in a unifying call to arms ahead of this summer's London Olympics.

Van Commenee, the head coach of UK Athletics, was trying to make his voice heard amid the racket that accompanied, and then followed, Farah's rousing 1500 metres triumph in the closing event of the Aviva International.
