That barren 79-year run ends this week as the Washington Nationals, who brought America's Game back to its capital after a 34-year hiatus in 2005, play St Louis Cardinals in the first round of the National League play-offs. The best-of-five series starts in St Louis today and reaches Nationals Park – with its views of the US Capitol – on Wednesday.
