Benson good to go

Lewis Benson of Lochend will take the 10th and final place on Scotland's boxing team for this summer's Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old faced a box-off with Connor Law of Glenrothes last weekend, in a bout to decide which of the pair would compete in the 69kg welterweight category.

In an outstanding - and closely-fought - affair, Benson won 2:1 on a split decision and was subsequently nominated by Boxing Scotland.

"The box-off was essential because our nomination panel could not separate the two boxers," said Richard Thomas, the chairman of Boxing Scotland. "Congratulations to Lewis whose addition to the team makes it a tremendous 10 boxers representing Scotland in Glasgow 2014."
