GLASGOW ROCKS' hopes of mounting a title challenge next season have suffered a setback after the forward Tayo Ogedengbe quit for their BBL rivals Surrey Scorchers.

The London-born England international averaged 15.3 points per game in his first season at the Emirates Arena and was expected to stay on but the rebranded Guildford side tempted him south by offering him the captain's role.

"I had a tough decision to make," Ogedengbe said. "It's important to me to play for a club with the right infrastructure and support.

"I know I have made the right choice. I have a great history playing with basketball in Surrey and I absolutely love playing in front of the fans and on the court there."

In the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs hit the ground running on the first day of free agency, agreeing new contracts with forwards Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green and trading centre Tiago Splitter to clear the way for a bid for the free agent LaMarcus Aldridge.

Leonard, who averaged 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, agreed to a five-year, $90m maximum deal and Green agreed to stay on a four-year, $45m contract.

Trading Splitter to Atlanta will free $8.5m in cap space as the Spurs pursue forward Aldridge.

Kevin Love, another high-profile free agent, ended speculation about his future by agreeing a new five-year, $110m contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
