BRAEHEAD CLAN have been drawn to face Vaxjo Lakers from Sweden and Gerrmany's Ingolstadt in the draw for the group stage of ice hockey's Champions Hockey League.

The Renfrewshire-based outfit will compete in Europe for the first time after finishing second in the British Elite League in the season just finished.

Braehead will play both opponents home and away between August 20 and September 6, with the two top teams advancing to the last 32 of the competition.

Ingolstadt, finished third in the German ice hockey championship, while Vaxjo are the reigning Swedish champions.

"Playing in a country like Scotland is one of the charms of the Champions Hockey League," said Henrik Evertsson, sporting director of Vaxjo, the competition's number one seeds. "There are teams from different leagues, from different countries and places where we might not ordinarily play. So it will be great fun."
