Bradley Wiggins retained the yellow jersey, his Sky team-mate Chris Froome is in second and Cadel Evans' hopes of defending his title are in bad shape after he lost ground.
Pierre Rolland (Europcar) claimed victory on the finish into La Toussuire, with Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana) leading the classification for King of the Mountains after 148km of ferocious attacking-style racing.
