JAMES CLEGG failed to continue the family medal rush at the London 2012 Paralympics on Tuesday night – but the Scot was upbeat despite finishing last in the 100m freestyle.

Clegg was the first half of a family double act on Sunday night, winning S12 100m butterfly bronze less than an hour before sister Libby took 100m T12 silver on the track.Their parents were able to dash between the venues for a double celebration on Sunday but it appeared they would be consoling him last night after his freestyle display. Clegg refused to be too disappointed, though, insisting his very appearance in the final was a bonus."I have not been swimming the freestyle for the last month as I have very much been putting all my eggs in the butterfly basket," he said."So for me to come back and to swim a personal best in the 100m freestyle and to make a final was a great performance for me."Clegg might have been pleased just to contest the final last night but his fellow Scot Sean Fraser was anything but after enduring a painful night in the S8 100m backstroke.Fraser was left perplexed and angry after a final in which he finished fifth in a time of 1.09.67 minutes. The sight of GB teammate Ollie Hynd on the podium was a painful illustration of what could have been. Two years ago, Fraser was clocking the times that took Hynd to a second Paralympic medal – indeed his personal best is nearly half a second quicker than his GB rival swam in last night's final. "It is annoying because I have swum faster than that and my personal best would have got me a medal," he said. "I don't know why the times are just not coming."
