Curling: Scots continue winning ways

Scotland's men have qualified for the weekend play-off stages of the World Junior Championships before playing their final round-robin game today against the USA after winning twice yesterday.

The women, defending their title, are still unbeaten after a 7-2 win over Switzerland and are sure to finish top of the table.

The men beat Sweden 6-5 in a tight encounter that went all the way to a Scottish steal of 1 in the tenth end when Kyle Smith, the skip, managed to get his own last stone on to the button, and Patric Maberg, Sweden's fourth player, could only nudge it rather than remove it. They later won 5-4 against Czech Republic to sit on top of the table with seven wins.

The women took control against Switzerland by scoring 2 in the second end and 1 in the third. The Swiss faced five Scottish counters in the fourth end but got inside them all to score 1. In the fifth end, Switzerland missed a difficult take-out, moving a second Scottish stone into counting position, which enabled the Scottish skip Hannah Fleming to play a simple take out and score 3 more. A steal of 1 in the sixth put them 7-1 ahead and the die was cast.
